Our Agents of Change program brings delegations of U.S.-based youth to conferences and summits related to international policy, primarily at the United Nations. Our delegates work with government delegates, fellow civil society members, and other youth to promote youth-friendly and future-focused policies related to sustainable development and climate change. Follow the links below to learn more about our involvement:
UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC)
UN Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD)
UN Commission for Social Development (CSocD)
UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW)
UN Convention on Biodiverity (CBD)
The Concept
Agents of Change (AoC) is one of two SustainUS national programs. Designed to facilitate youth involvement in international sustainable development policymaking, AoC organizes youth delegations to participate in high-level conferences and events, particularly those sponsored by the United Nations. In the 2005/2006 cycle, AoC sent delegations to United Nations conferences in locations from Montreal, Canada to Curitiba, Brazil, to participate in dialogues on global climate change, issues in biological diversity, social development, and of course, sustainable development. Since its inception in 2004, AoC has allowed over 60 young people from all across the United States to actively contribute to policy discussions at the nternational level.
The Process
AoC embodies the spirit and vision of SustainUS. By allowing youth to play an active role in such high-level conferences, AoC encourages young people to analyze, critique, and accept responsibility for our generation’s most pressing global issues. Whether drafting policy documents, making speeches on the floor of the UN, engaging in meetings with government delegates, lobbying for specific policies, or collaborating with other youth from around the world, SustainUS delegates cultivate the skills necessary to become successful leaders in the future.

The Result
Agents of Change, in creating a rare blend of opportunity, engagement, and peer mentorship, empowers U.S. youth while challenging them to recognize their ability to impact decisions of global significance
